Since I started shooting film, I’ve learned how much thought goes into every shot. This was shot at magic hour in Seoul, and while I foocused on the sign, anticipating someone walking by and taking the shot when they, too, were within that depth of field, I didn’t get it because it’s entirely different beast. Nevertheless, I feel this is still beautifully lit and it’s interesting to experiment.

When you’re in Korea, but you find a super interesting western dude sitting outside, and the light is right…

Arno Pieser at age 24. My musical soulmate, the guy who’s always down for a laugh or a karaoke session in a taxi - who will tell it to you like it is with a drink in hand, and who won’t get angry if you show up early in the morning after a long night (into the morning) of heavy drinking to shower and puke at his place because you don’t have hot water at your apartment, and in fact will join you for breakfast too. Dear Arno, I love you!

I lived fairly close to Olympic Park in Seoul and honestly it was probably one of the better things that happened to me. Olympic park is this huge park that’s full of community centers, courtyards, hills, trees and more. Many people do photoshoots there. I tried to avoid bringing my camera out there because I wanted to enjoy the scenery and not be tempted to spend the entire time behind a lens. Here is Andrew Mahoney. This is at the back entrance.

I never thought I’d be into black and white photography. I just thought… when there are so many amazing colors in real life, why ignore them?
But I decided to give it a try anyway. Shooting in black and white is SO different than shooting in color. Often times when you see a shot you have to ask yourself why it’s a shot that works, and if has anything to do with the color, then forget it, it’s not going to work in black and white. I have to say I was quite pleased with this roll, the blacks are truly black and the whites are also very pure. The midtones are also very diverse and complete. I’m not sure what’s with the white dots…
